It is surreal to be writing this last reflection for the the work week. Like all these posts, I simply will just let the words come.
Gratitude.
This week was like a blink but consisting of matter that speak of eternity, of heaven itself. We were truly in communion as one family would, without borders, division, feuds, and fear. Today was both cement day and the big carne asada fiesta held on the property. It would be a day that demanded most of our bodies, like the last pushing of a labor. And indeed, the joy was to see the completion of so much of the foundation ready to support the rest of the house. Eduardo told us last night in reflection that the foundation, like anything in life, needs to be strong. A strong family in union, in love, in service are mingled with the contents of a solidifying concrete.
Nuvia upon the end of time together received a brand new lime tree as a housewarming gift. In tears, she profusely thanked our group and we, in turn, gave her words from our heart. This is what Esperanza is all about. It lives up to the “hope” it wears as a banner representing every detail of this process—this love that has been accomplished time and time again.
After leaving, we drove to the site neighborhood where we could witness a community meeting and see finished houses with families already living or about to move in. The site was peaceful and were designed with impressive modern touches in the flooring and tile selection. They seemed even nicer than some American homes I have seen. This made my heart smile knowing this was coming for Nuvia and she can provide a home for her two sons.
We are not at home after a hot shower ready to go out to the food truck park with a microbrewery and several culinary fusions. I always love this part of the week to truly celebrate the work accomplished and love shared. We will have our final reflection tomorrow, clean up, and head to the airport.
This morning, we ventured to daily Mass and the reading were about the New Covenant in Christ, the perfect mediator, who commissions His 12 Apostles in the Gospel. What providence to have these readings as it themes our being sent and that we share in the Communion of Christ’s heart for his people in our call to love and service.
Gracias a Dios.
